When I visit a new country, I always go on TripAdvisor to see what others travellers recommend and have enjoyed. I really like the fact that reviews are authentic and genuine and that people have taken the time to write something. At Oxford English Academy in Oxford, we always include these activities in our social programme. In this series of blog posts, I take a look at activities in Oxford that are ranked in the top 10 on TripAdvisor, starting with number 10.

10. Magdalen College: This college was established in the 15th century and is steeped in history and tradition. It welcomes visitors, even though it’s a working college, to see the Hall, the Chapel, the Old Kitchen Bar and the grounds where deer wander. And for those who love The Chronicles of Narnia , then this place will be of special interest to you. C.S. Lewis, the author of the Narnia books amongst other titles, studied and lectured at the college.

9. Christ Church: This is another working academic college and is over 500 years old! The institution is famous for its grandeur, history and tradition, which may not be appealing to all visitors. What has made it more popular in recent times is that the Harry Potter movies based the Great Hall of Hogwarts on the Hall of Christ Church. And this is not the first time that the Hall was featured in children’s literature and films. Lewis Caroll, the writer of Alice in Wonderland and many other books, was a lecturer at the college. Some say that the Mad Hatter’s tea party, has some elements of the Hall in it.

8. Christ Church Meadow: This meadow is a popular place in Oxford to stroll and wander and is a peaceful green gem in the city. It is bordered by a number of the city’s famous rivers, where some of the Oxford University rowing teams practise. Cows can even be found grazing on the lush grass, adding to the idyllic English country side feel of this pasture.
