At Oxford English Academy in Cape Town we strive to better the lives of our students with knowledge as well as social awareness. Maitland Children’s Home Society in Newlands has crept into our hearts for the incredible work they do. Therefore, we try to support them as much as we can by holding biannual fundraising charity events.

A few weeks ago our students and interns went to visit the hospital and had a great time playing with and reading to the kids. The visit alerted them to the need for funds to be raised. So our hardworking interns set out a few weeks ago to secure exciting prizes from local businesses. They emailed and visited a large amount of companies, hat in hand, asking for sponsorships.

And once again the giving spirit of Cape Town and its business owners did not disappoint. We are super stoked (excuse the slang!) about the incredible prizes we have managed to secure. Our students have been selling and buying raffle tickets fervently for the past few weeks in order to raise funds for the children. Time has flown and tomorrow is D-day! The draw will take place at our campus on Long Street at 2pm. Everyone is welcome so bring some drinks and eats and perhaps you could win a great prize! But what are these prizes I keep boasting about?

Ashanti Guesthouse has stepped up and donated an incredible prize of a two-night stay for two people including breakfast! This beautiful establishment will certainly make you feel like royalty while you are there.

Fly Cape Town Paragliding has promised that one lucky winner can glide across Table Bay and view our beautiful city from a different angle in a once in a lifetime experience.

Canal Walk shopping centre has been so kind as to donate a shopping voucher to one lucky raffle winner to use at any of their more than 400 shops.

Summer is here and the Galileo Open Air Theatre is in full swing again. They came to the party and gave us two movie tickets to raffle off.

Finally, our favourite coffee shop in Cape Town also joined our initiative and proved just how generous they are by handing over five R100 coffee vouchers.

Personally I would love to win any of these wonderful prizes! So come along because you will still be able to buy a ticket for the first half an hour of the event. I hope to see you there!
