When learning English abroad, I highly recommend taking part in any social activities your English school offers. At Oxford English Academy in Oxford and Cape Town, the social programme is an integral part of the student experience. Not only do students have the opportunity to see many places and to make new friends, they also have the chance to practise their English in authentic situations. In this blog post I would like to show you videos of the most popular activities in Oxford and in Cape Town. Enjoy!

The first video is of our students going to Ratanga Junction in Cape Town, which is a huge theme park about 20 minutes’ drive from the city. This is a really popular social programme activity because students seem to love the thrills and exhilaration of crazy rollercoasters and rides!

The second video is of our students doing their orientation tour in Oxford. This is a free tour that is offered every Monday to new students who have arrived at the school. The idea of this tour is to allow them to see a bit of Oxford and to find their bearings in a new city.

Another favourite social programme activity of our student in Cape Town, is taking a Cape Point Tour. This is a full day tour, usually taken on a Saturday and Sunday. Students meet at school and the drive around the Cape Peninsula, stopping for a boat ride in Hout Bay to see the seals, for fish and chips, at Boulder’s Beach to see the penguins and finally to Cape Point. This is a truly spectacular tour with many, many wonderful photo opportunities.

No visit to Oxford is complete without visiting Christ Church. Oxford is a beautiful city, steeped in tradition and history, and students love to see old buildings such as Christ Church.

I have just touched on a few of the social programme activities that take place at our schools in Oxford and Cape Town. In order to fully experience what our programme offers, you should enrol at one of our schools and experience it all for yourself!
