Getting Attention

It looks like everybody’s here, so let’s get started. If you are chairing a meeting, you need to get everybody’s attention. This is vital so that you can start the meeting on a positive note.

I would like to thank everybody for taking the time to be here. This phrase has many variations. The idea is to get start by setting the tone of the meeting. Unless you are planning a hostile takeover, it’s always good to start the meeting politely. This will put people at ease.

I would like to introduce… If there are people who are not a regular part of your business meetings, then you need to introduce them.  This lets the others know what they are doing at the meeting. It is common for them to give their name, and their position or job title. They should also say what their purpose is of being in that meeting

The Agenda

In today’s meeting, we’re going to discuss… You will most likely have an agenda for your meeting but this is also a great way to get everybody’s attention and to provide a summary of what the main points of the meeting will be.

Starting the Meeting

Let’s begin by looking at the first item on the agenda. Once everybody has settled down, they need to know what the meeting is about. After that, you can introduce any new people. Lastly you can jump into your meeting with confidence.
