BASIC ENGLISH 22
Students study for 22 lessons per week and the aim of these classes is to improve competency in all language skills, especially spoken and written English. Students use a textbook and supplementary materials to focus on skills, accuracy and appropriate use of language. There is strong focus on improving communication skills. We subscribe to the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) and offer six levels: A1 (breakthrough), A2 (waystage), B1 (threshold), B2 (vantage), C1 (effective operational proficiency) and C2 (mastery).
FAST TRACK ENGLISH 32
Students study for 32 hours a week, so this course is ideal for those who are looking for rapid improvement of their English language abilities. Students concentrate on all skills in the morning with Basic English 22 and then have a choice of electives for the afternoon. Students can choose from Conversation Elective, IELTS Elective or Business English and English for Specific Purposes.
Students can choose this course as an afternoon elective. Classes concentrate on Basic English 22 in the mornings and Conversation for two or four afternoons a week. Conversation classes give students the opportunity to put into practise what they learn in the skills and grammar classes. Classes include outings to use language in real-world situations and are fast-paced, varied, fun and engaging.
BUSINESS ENGLISH AND ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC Purposes (ESp)
Students can study Business English and English for Specific Purposes (ESP) as an afternoon elective. We use a communicative method, teaching Business English and ESP through everyday business situations. These include giving presentations, socialising, negotiating, making travel arrangements and business correspondence. ESP courses are designed for specific industries and goals set by students or their employers.
IELTS exam preparation ELECTIVE
Students concentrate on Basic English 22 in the mornings and IELTS exam preparation for two afternoons a week. The course is aimed at fully preparing students by concentrating on all the skills required for the exam and by giving students ample mock exam practice.
CAMBRIDGE FCE, CAE and CPE Exam preparation
These Cambridge exam preparation courses are for students preparing to take the Cambridge FCE, CAE or CPE examinations. Students study for 25 lessons a week and the courses concentrate on exam techniques, overall language improvement and skills development. Students will need to take an entrance test to ensure that they are in the correct level.
Classes are charged per hour. Individual lessons are planned for the student’s needs and can provide rapid improvement in their use of English. These can be combined with other classes and are a good way to focus on specific problems the student has. This course is also ideal for students who are looking for Business English and English for Specific Purposes. This is the most flexible course we offer whereby students decide on what to study and when they want study.
This course is for students under 16 years of age and is a combination of General English for 20 lessons a week and educational and fun outings in the afternoons. Classes are aimed at engaging young minds with fun and age-appropriate themes and are taught by teachers with young learner experience and qualifications. Outings include activities such as visiting museums, going on safari, shopping, sports and visiting a fun fair. Packages are all-inclusive (airport transfers, accommodation, tuition, course materials, registration fees and outings) and can be tailor-made to suit each group’s needs.

Natasha Budd – ACAdemic SCHOOL DIRECTOR
Natasha has a great passion for languages, learning and teacher training and development. She started as an EFL teacher in Cape Town after completing her CELTA in 2004. She then moved into academic management after completing her DELTA qualification in the city of Barcelona Spain in 2008. She has gained over ten years’ experience as an Academic Director at both local and international English language centers. In addition, Natasha is a speaking examiner for both Cambridge ESOL and the IELTS examinations. Natasha has a keen interest in learning technology and curriculum development and has worked on projects creating material resources for online and blended learning.
With her passion for the outdoors, travel and adventure, when not at Oxford English Academy you can find her rock climbing, hiking and trail running in the mountains in and around Cape Town.
Ilse Liebenberg – GLOBAL SALES Director, Oxford English Academy META ReGION
Ilse approaches life with humour and vigour and loves working with people as well as travelling. This has made her the perfect fit for Global Sales Director of Oxford English Academy.
She is known for her open-door policy and friendly enthusiastic nature, making students, agents and parents feel at home in our school. At the same time her efficiency and organisational skills mean that our agents are in good hands.
Ilse has a background in business management as well as teaching English. She has a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Stellenbosch and completed a 120 hour TEFL course in 2013. She has taken on the newly established Sales Department with enthusiasm and looks forward to travelling the world to recruit agents and students for our schools.
Sakeena Felix – Office & Accommodation Manager
Sakeena joined Oxford English Academy in June 2011 when she was appointed as receptionist. Her warm, approachable nature and dedication towards our students and host families made her the ideal choice when the need arose to appoint an Accommodation Coordinator. Sakeena’s incredible ability to multi-task, with a smile on her face, earned her another promotion. She is currently employed as Oxford English Academy’s Office and Accommodation Manager and she is loved and respected by colleagues and students alike.
Joslyne Cloete – Marketing Coordinator, Oxford English ACADEMY META Region
Joslyne joined Oxford English Academy in February 2013 as a Marketing Intern. She is a warm-hearted person and enjoys what she does. Fashion was always her first love, and remains a passion, but she decided to pursue her second great love and study Marketing. Marketing enabled Joslyne to maintain her creative flair and develop an outlet for all her thoughts and ideas. She has spread her wings and is now more involved in our social programme, organising in house events and supervising our interns.
Joslyne was promoted to Marketing Coordinator in May 2013, and while she is responsible for all marketing and social media for both Cape Town and Oxford schools, she adds extra spark by being an office all-rounder who liaises with staff, students and teachers on a daily basis.
Felicia Du Plessis – Student ServiceS Coordinator
Felicia started at Oxford English Academy in October 2013. She was initially a stand-in for another staff member on maternity leave, but due to her sunny disposition and efficiency was made a permanent part of the Oxford English Academy team.
She is a hard working person, who loves to assist others where she can. She often goes the extra mile and her warmth and friendliness make her a favourite among staff and students alike. As Student Service Coordinator she always does her very best to ensure that students studying at Oxford English Academy are happy and comfortable.
SHAHIEDA ABRAHAMS – BILLING & ACCOUNTS coordinator
Shahieda started at Oxford English Academy in August 2015 as the billing and accounts coordinator. She has more than 20 years’ experience in finance and uses her extensive knowledge to keep the accounts up-to-date and correct.
Shahieda likes to interact with the students and to make them feel comfortable at school. When she’s not at Oxford English Academy, she enjoys the outdoors, running and reading.
Sharfaa Abrahams – Administration assistant
Sharfaa started at Oxford English Academy in November 2015 as a Marketing Intern. She is always ready for new challenges and because of her eagerness and willingness to learn, she was given a new permanent role as Administration Assistant in March 2017.
Sharfaa is a very adventurous person and she will definitely always choose outdoor activities over shopping. It is her dream to travel the world and she therefore enjoys meeting all the international students at the school. Sharfaa is always ready for a challenge, so when thrown into the deep end, she always comes out on top.
Nolubablo Mdingi – Cleaning Services
Babes was born and raised in the Eastern Cape until she moved to Cape Town with her parents in 2001. Her parents chose to move to Cape Town to give Babes and their family better opportunities. Babes enjoys living and working in Cape Town. She has been with Oxford English Academy since 2012 and loves meeting the students from all over the world.
Terence Siyabulela Masiza – Security services
Terence was born in the Xolobe location in Queenstown in the Eastern Cape. He has been working at Oxford English Academy since 2015 and loves meeting students from around the world.
Terence enjoys reading, watching movies and playing soccer. He is also a very sociable person and feels that obedience and respect are his best qualities.
Bridget Kennedy – Head Teacher
Bridget is a recent addition to our Oxford English Academy family, joining us as head teacher on 1 June 2016. She completed her CELTA in 2007 and has taught all levels (Beginner – Advanced) and IELTS. She has 10 years’ experience under her ESL belt. People are her business, travel is her passion and she loves her family, yoga, food and having a good time no matter what or where.
Jane Trombetta – Teacher
Jane Trombetta has been teaching English to foreign language students in Cape Town for 14 years. She has taught every age group, many nationalities, and all aspects of EFL at every level.
After bringing up her two children, she decided to pursue her passion for languages and completed a BA degree majoring in Linguistics, English and Italian through the University of Cape Town and Unisa. She completed her CELTA training in 2000, and in 2003 she received a certificate for completing a course in Teaching Cambridge Exam classes. Over the years, she has prepared many students for the IELTS, First Certificate, Advanced and Proficiency exams. She has also worked extensively with Business English students, preparing specialised courses for specific needs.
When she is not teaching, she enjoys travelling and spending time with her family and friends.
Andrea Williams – Teacher
With a background in speech and drama, Andrea has been training and coaching voice and business communication skills for adults in and around Cape Town for a number of years. English language skills development has always been an aspect of her work, because in South Africa’s multi-lingual society, many who use English for work or for studying don’t speak it as their first language. In 2012 she decided she enjoyed teaching English so much that she would make it her exclusive focus. She added the CELTA to her qualifications and now is very happy to be a member of the Oxford English Academy teaching staff. When she isn’t teaching she’s usually at home in Fish Hoek, enjoying the best of life in a sea-side suburb of Cape Town.
Maddy Harsant – Teacher
Maddy loves teaching students from all over the world and learning about their cultures. She has been teaching English for eight years. She has a warm, friendly approach to teaching, coupled with humour and good classroom management skills.
She enjoys attending teacher training getting new ideas and pooling knowledge with her fellow teachers. She tries to use different methods in class so that students enjoy the learning experience. It’s very rewarding for her to see students start from knowing only a few words to acquiring a range of vocabulary as they progress. Concepts of grammar can be quite daunting for students, but when she sees them produce what they have learnt, she knows that they have finally understood.
Maddy has TEFL, CELTA and TKT qualifications.
Stefano De Siena, Teacher
Although he is one of our younger teachers, don’t be fooled by his age. With a history of work in journalism and sound engineering, Stefano has a wide range of interests and abilities which, combined with his experience, makes for an interesting atmosphere in the classroom. He attained his CELTA in Cape Town and then gained experience in South America and Europe where he also managed to pick up a few languages himself. He has a passion for language and loves how it has the ability to bring people together.
Carlyn solomons, teacher
Carlyn has been teaching English since 2015. After completing her TEFL/TESOL certification in May 2015, she gained a years’ experience in a classroom setting as well as private one-on-one teaching. She joined Oxford English Academy Cape Town in May of 2016, where she has had extensive on the job practice and training. She is very enthusiastic about expanding her knowledge and experience furthermore.
Carlyn is open to new challenges and faces them head on. She is passionate about arts, culture and music. She sings professionally and is very active in her community.
Accommodation is one of the most important aspects of a study visit to another country. It is vitally important that a student’s accommodation is clean, comfortable and conveniently located. We offer the student a number of different accommodation options.
